Second life is flying High!

Well..well..well another life...hummmmmm...

I do declare!

I have arrived! The tower is a rock'N but, there was no one there. :-(

I thought I might run in to some of my classmates but, I didn't. I think it would be cool to have a conference in Secondlife. I mean you don't have to leave your home and you can dress for success without having to shop for hours. Well, maybe if you are not me. I had a hard time trying to get my avatar's clothes changed. I kept trying different things but, they all looked crazy. I think there should be a closet that you can go in and try on outfits.

I didn't have a hard time at all figuring out how to get the UCM's campus. I just played around until I found the teleporter. I enjoyed going to the beach the most!

A final thought… I do not believe Secondlife is a great tool for teaching kids in general as there is too much going on and there are sexrooms and nudist islands. I know the world is full of all kinds of things but, I just do not think it is a place where a child should be. I would also like to say that some of the chat that goes on is NOT appropriate for anyone…Except adults who want to participate. So, I have listed below some of the interesting places I have found to teach or take your kiddos!

  1. Second Life is a pretty easy program to figure out. I also enjoyed changing clothes to look different. I think when I started that is what I spent most of my time on. It must be a girl thing. Just like playing with Barbie's again.

  2. I never changed my outfit, but it sounds like I should try to if you two had so much fun!

  4. I'm glad all of you enjoy Second Life. I'm still not a big fan of it. I know we're supposed to look past the idea of "younger students", but that's what I teach and I still have bad feelings that I would lose some kids and they would end up someplace they shouldn't. I think there is a lot of information presented in SL, but there is also a lot of pay for this and that that is a pain..

  6. I never even saw anyone on campus! I'm sure it's not like that in the Real World. I've changed clothes several times and I'm still not happy, especially since I can't carry a purse!! :(

  7. Ha! You remind me of my sister. Whenever we play Nintendo Wii, she is obsessed with making sure her characters clothes are 'just right'. I am always in such a hurry to play the game - I really could care less! Anyways, I am afraid that if I try Second Life in my classroom, I may have a few of my students spending too much classtime playing with clothes. Maybe if I ever use it I would give it as homework. But I already have problems making sure the kids have a word processer at home, let alone a vitrual world!

  8. I am considered an old timer and back in the days we'd get L$300 each time we log in/day. When I got to $1000 I'd buy a new outfit and yet, it was like playing Barbie :P I'd spend a lot of time dressing me up. I probably shouldn't have though... I was on UCM penny :P BUT hey, I had to teach how to dress oneself and purchase and all that so it was all part of the educational process, right? :)
